| In the summer of 2007, the Trout Conservancy enabled (with grant funding) the replacement of an old undersized culvert that blocked fish passage into the upper reaches of Midas Creek (near Libby) with a new culvert designed to allow full passage for all aquatic species year-round. Access to vital spawning and rearing habitat was thus provided for endangered bull trout, westslope cutthroat trout and Montana's only native rainbow trout species, the inland or Columbia redband trout. |

Midas Creek 2004 (Before restoration) - diameter much less than channel width, and note perched (hanging) bottom of culvert (w/ small falls).
|
Midas Creek 2007 (After restoration) - note culvert diameter encompasses channel and culvert bottom simulates natural stream bottom w/ rocks and gravel, providing unnoticeable break.
